Yes, we again suffered
through that agonizing, painful 30 hour flight thing. This time it started on
the 2nd of August 19.00 in Zürich, then via London, Singapore, Darwin and
finally we reached Cairns on the 4th of August at 8.30 in the morning. Clearing
immigration this time wasn't to easy since Australia was holding a tight
lookout because of some countries having a foot and mouth disease outbreak.
Australia could loose billions if there would be an outbreak here.
As
always, we checked into the Coral
Tree Inn and instantly went to town for a good cuppa and a local
newspaper. Then we went for a stroll downtown to check out the changes. After a
leisurely walk back we hit the pool. Or rather vice versa. It was around 18
degrees celsius, therefore really refreshing.
Sunday was invested to
sleep the Jet Lag of and to aclimatise ourselves. Our next venture was a trip
to the Great Barrier Reef for some relaxing sun bathing and some snorkeling. It
is always again amazing to see this diverse and stunning underwater
world.
Just before leaving Cairns for Darwin, we visited the Flecker
Botanical Gardens in Cairns. This beautiful garden at the edge of the city
offers a great insight into the spectacular plant and tree life in the tropical
rainforests that can be found around Queensland.
On Thursday we boarded
our plane towards Darwin, where we went to pick up our four wheel drive car
with which we intend to explore the australian outback. |
