After stacking up our
supplies we started our journey towards the Mary River Wetlands and the Kakadu
Nationalpark. We already had seen both of them on earlier trips, but always at
the beginning of the Wet Season. Then thousands of different birds flock in the
different floodplains to feast on the quickly growing food that is supllied in
abundnace by nature. We were looking forward to find out how they look in the
dry season.
We noticed that it is much less warm and humid around that
time of the year. Since it cools down pretty much during the nights, the
crocodiles can be seen more often along the rivers and billabongs where they
were sunning themselves. They were as well less quickly disapearing, such that
the cruise boats could approach at times as close as 4-5 m before the took
off.
Although there were significantly less birds visible along he
rivers and billabongs, we would still see very many different species that at
times even held still for a picture to be taken. Mainly though for our SLR
Camera since our digital camera didn't feature strong zoom function.
