Yes I know, you are all
tired by the endless number of sunsets and sunrises, but when visiting Broome,
it is always again a must for me to spectate one of these magic Broome Sunsets
on Cable Beach (To the dismay of my wife). Especially magical when clouds are
scattered over the sky. Once again we were lucky to sit in natures cinema and
watch what was happening. An additional feature of Broome is the tropical
setting together with the amazing colors enhanced by the strong contrast
between the reddish sands and the bluegreen seas surrounding it. It is time and
time again hard to leave such a place and travel on.
At this occasion we
as well visited the Willie Creek Pearl Farm near Broome. Here we were told how
Pearls are cultured. Usually a nucleus is introduced into the oyster. Pretty
much as producing the internal pearlmother of the shell, these nucleuses are
layered with pearlmother of shell as well. The oyster will grow in 2 years
approximately a layer of 3mm thickness. After 2 years the pearl will be removed
and the oyster will be reseeded with a nucleus slightly smaller as the removed
pearl. Again 2 years later that pearl will be removed as well. Up to 4 seedings
per oyster are carried out. After that these older oysters may be used to
produce made to order shapes of pearls, called mabe pearls as for instances the
pictured teardrop shapes. Of the not anymore used oysters, the flesh and the
mother of pearl are further used.
Our way then led us further north in
direction to Cape Leveque. Overnight stays are only possible at one of so far 3
resorts that belong to Aboriginal Enterprises. For all of them bookings are
essential. We got lucky at the Kooljaman Resort that is located right on Cape
Leveque. The drive took us around 3 hours. We found absolutely stunning red
sandstone cliffs along beautiful white beaches. Further out to Hunters Creeks
sand dunes from white to red amaze the eyes. In short, certainly a place not to
miss.
From here on we drove towards Port Hedland with an overnight stop
at Eighty Mile Beach and a short visit at Cape Kerauderen
