Our trip took us now
from Cairns towards Mossman, Daintree National Park, Cape Tribulation and via
the Bloomfield Track to Cooktown Along the way we camped at Pilgrim Sands
for 3 days and ventured from there into the Rainforest, once into the
Conservation Center where we were able to watch a wild young Cassowary. Of the
worlds third largest Bird it is said that only 350 still live in Australia.
Even fewer in Papua New Guinea. Then we took a half day guided
rainforest walk which brought us an additional insight. Along the way we found
a lot of nice Beaches and views. Via the Bloomfield Track we drove further to
Cooktown. Mostly via unsealed Roads and occasionally we as well had to climb or
descend slopes that were up to 25% steep. The whole scenery was absolutely
breathtaking. After the journey we felt like well shaken Milchshakes.
In Cooktown we found a beautifully situated Motel right next to the Harbour. We
received the absolutely most friendly welcome by Anne and Ian at the Seaview
Motel and were soon after enjoying the pool and a marvelous sunset. Not to
forget the sunrise the next Morning. A signed walkway thru Cooktown
outlines the historic importance of Cooktown. It is here where the first
Europeans settled in Australia in 1770. The Cooktown Cemetery as well gives a
historical insight with some graves dating back to around 1820. |
